Name: Amaayla Sarafina Zaraht-Shah
Codename: Channel
Aliases: Conduit, Amara Tahone, “Zionne”
Nicknames: Mayla, Zara, Rosebud
Sex: Female
Birthplace: Brooklyn, NY
Eyes: Smouldering purple
Hair: Mulberry red with white streaks
Skin Colour: Pale chocolate brown
Age: 23
Genetic Mutation: Amaayla has the power to control and harness electricity in any form or strength. This means she can use radio waves, electro magnetic waves, in fact, any form of energy or body heat. This allows her to become a living conduit or battery, capable of firing off bursts or waves/shocks of energy at will and tapping into stores of this power. This gift is triggered more so by touch than thought and she has no control over the gift. It is semi-controlled but takes a lot of strength and willpower to do so when it is on high power.
Amaayla has been known to kill people by touch, her power is only inactive for four hours of the day. This means that, like Rogue, she must keep others at arms-length to avoid their deaths. The unique colours of her hair and eyes were a by-product of the manifestation of her powers.
History: Amaayla was born to the union of an Ethiopian mother and an American father. Abandoned with her infant daughter, the woman sought sanctuary inside a building that soon caught fire due to an electrical fault and her mother was killed as a beam fell on her. Orphaned, the girl was taken in by the neighbours and basically left to raise herself. She therefore grew up on the streets of New York, learning the trick of the trade and with no parental authority to guide her. When she was 12, she joined the Mau Maus and soon became the leading girl of the President of the club. Then, he was kicked out and she found herself drugged and sold as an unwilling prostitute. This gave her nothing but emotional scars, a fierce self-dependency and a lingering addiction to drugs.
At 18, she killed the brothel owner and escaped into the Underworld where she was picked up by the Hand as a drug-runner and assassin. They played upon her drug habit to keep her under control and would often resort to physical punishment and torture to further suppress her willpower. This made her extremely introverted and terrified of her captors and scared of her growing genetic powers. This soon culminated in a devastating burst of electricity that killed most of her captors and attracted the attention of the X-Men. They found her lying unconscious and bleeding in the middle of the burnt out building and took her back to the Xavier Institute to save her life. Soon, they invited her to stay and learn to control her powers. Spurred on by a “life-debt”, she agreed and soon became one of the students of the Xavier Institute.
Personality: Amaayla tries at all times to avoid physical contact. She suffers much trauma due to her past and refuses to speak about it to anyone save a select few. Her sleep is frequently interrupted and she will often wake screaming and shaking from nightmares of her past. The long-term effects of her drug habit have also altered her personality as well.
